Sydney -> New Zealand -> Los Angeles -> Boston
Then the NZ->LAX portion got canceled, and a computer rebooked my itinerary to this:
NZ -> SYD -> NZ followed by SYD -> LAX -> BOS (this second leg, departing from Sydney, starting while I'm still in New Zealand). Note that this trip starts in New Zealand. (I live in a different country.)
So I called one of the three airlines involved and got it switched around to SYD -> LAX -> BOS, which is fantastic.
Except I still had the flights to and from New Zealand. Which would have been a nice free bonus, if the flight from NZ leaves before the flight to New Zealand.
In the course of getting this all sorted I found out that my original NZ -> LAX flight was never canceled, just moved forward a day, and I was still booked on that one too.
So, the short version: somehow I wound up with tickets for five different planes for a trip that only involves two flights.
In the end it's all great, though. I won't get home any earlier, but I get to leave later and I now get a full three hour stopover in LAX. Which is to say, I am going to be freaking out in a full-on America overload in the LAX food court for at least an hour.
Gosh I hope there's a Taco Bell and a Sbarro's and a Panda Express.
